Hi, I’m Dave McCoy, publisher of the new magazine, Our Canton Life.
I actually got my start in publishing pretty early, delivering newspapers door to door as a kid. I didn’t know it at the time, but that first job taught me lessons I’ve carried throughout my life working in restaurants, the sporting goods industry, and in broadcast television: show up, work hard, honor the people you serve, deliver only your best, and take personal pride in all you do. And whether I was helping a family fit their ten-year-old for his first football helmet, an NFL quarterback into a new pair of cleats, or helping propel some of the top brands in television news to success, I’ve tried to live by those lessons. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of helping care for brands at CBS, Paramount, NBCUniversal, General Electric, the National Ski Patrol, and the University of Southern California. I’ve led talented creative teams, launched major campaigns and produced work across broadcast, digital and emerging media that has earned industry recognition, including National Emmy Awards.
I’ve lived all over America, but I’ve owned a home in Canton since 2011. Today, I’m raising three school-age children here, and there’s a pretty good chance we’ve crossed paths at a school event, on a sideline, or maybe on the winter slopes of Blue Hills where I volunteer as a Ski Patroller. I know Canton as a community. It’s where we live, but also where we shop, eat, play sports, make friends and build relationships. It’s where we connect with the local businesses that help build and support our town. Our Canton Life is a way for me to give back and pay it forward right here at home.
Giving back has always been an important part of my life. I’ve ridden 200 miles in multiple Pan-Mass Challenges and 100 in Ride MS events. I’ve also helped raise nearly $1 million in the battle against rare cancers as a Cycle for Survival team captain. As a cancer survivor myself, that work has a deeply personal meaning for me and has strengthened my belief in what people can accomplish when we come together for something that matters.
My goal for Our Canton Life is simple: create a publication worthy of the community we call home. One that celebrates our people, inspires us with positive stories, helps our local businesses thrive, gives us useful information for living life, and makes us smile each month. We could all use a little more of that.
I hope you’ll enjoy the journey we’re starting. After all, Our Canton Life is about all of us.
All the best, your neighbor, Dave
